How payment usually works

Most crematoriums and vets ask for payment at the time of service — when your pet is collected or when you collect the ashes. For euthanasia, the vet’s fee is usually settled on the day. It’s rarely a ‘pay later’ arrangement, simply because these are one-off services.

A coordination service typically takes the coordination fee when you book, with the vet paid separately on the day.

If money is tight right now

Say so plainly — ‘I can’t afford this, what are my options’ opens more doors than people expect. Some vets offer payment arrangements to existing clients. Communal cremation is far cheaper than individual. And if a pet is suffering and euthanasia itself feels unaffordable, welfare organisations like the SPCA assist with humane euthanasia — never let cost keep an animal in pain.

It’s worth knowing the cheapest dignified route in advance, so the decision isn’t made in a panic.
