Why brains need walking too
Dogs were bred for jobs — herding, hunting, guarding — and modern life fired most of them. Boredom leaks out as barking, digging, chewing and pacing. Enrichment isn't a luxury; it's the job replacement program.
Ditch the food bowl
The easiest win: feed meals through snuffle mats, puzzle feeders, scatter feeding in the yard, or frozen stuffed toys. A dog that spends twenty minutes working for dinner just did a shift at the office.
Ten-minute games
'Find it' with hidden treats, name-that-toy, trick training (spin, touch, chin rest), cardboard-box destruction parties (supervised), and flirt-pole sessions for chasers. Rotate toys weekly so old ones feel new.
Let them dog
Sniffing on walks, digging in a legal sandpit, chewing on safe chews, shredding under supervision — the behaviors we find inconvenient are needs seeking an outlet. Give the need a legal address and the illegal versions mostly resign.
