If your Yorkie has died at home, there is nothing you must rush. Wrap him in his own blanket or a towel and move him somewhere cool — a garage, a tiled bathroom, the coolest room in the house. In a South African winter that buys you comfortably until the next morning. In summer, aim to have him collected the same day.

What cremation costs for a Yorkie

Yorkies are typically 2–4kg, which puts them in the smallest and cheapest cremation bracket. In South Africa expect roughly R1,200–R1,900 for an individual cremation with the ashes returned, or R400–R900 for a communal cremation where the ashes are not returned. Collection from your home usually adds R250–R500. Anything quoted far above that range is worth a second phone call.

Individual or communal

Individual means only your dog is in the chamber and the ashes that come back are his. Communal means he is cremated alongside other pets and nothing is returned.
