Cremation

What It Costs to Cremate a Large or Giant-Breed Dog

The top of the price scale

Large and giant breeds sit at the top of the cremation scale: an individual cremation with ashes returned runs roughly R2,400–R5,500, sometimes more for the very biggest dogs. Communal is R1,200–R2,200. The size drives the cost because the cremator runs longer and collection is a two-person job.

Boerboels, mastiffs, Great Danes, St Bernards — for these, always give the weight upfront so the right team and the right quote arrive.

The practical reality

A 50–70kg dog who can no longer stand cannot be lifted into a car by one person. This is exactly why home euthanasia and home collection exist — they spare you an impossible physical task at the worst emotional moment. Budget for home collection (R250–R600) as part of the plan.

Giant breeds give everything in a short life; planning the goodbye before it’s urgent is the last act of guardianship they need.

Getting a real total

For a big dog, insist the quote includes collection and specifies individual or communal — the gap between a bare cremation price and the all-in total is largest for giant breeds.

Getting it arranged without the guesswork

Ease The Paw coordinates the whole thing — the vet if one is needed, collection from your home, an individual cremation confirmed in writing, a fur keepsake keyring, and the ashes returned to your door. One WhatsApp and we handle every phone call, and you get the full total in writing before anything happens.

If the day is coming

Ease The Paw coordinates in-home pet euthanasia across South Africa — we find and book the vet, arrange the cremation and handle the keepsakes, so you can simply be present. A flat R950 covers the coordination and your keepsake memorial; the vet and cremation are billed separately at their own rates.
