Why fleas are so hard to beat

Here’s the mistake nearly everyone makes: treating only the pet. The fleas you see on your dog or cat are only about 5% of the problem — the other 95% are eggs, larvae and pupae living in your carpets, bedding and floors. Treat only the animal and the environment simply re-infests them within days.

Fleas also breed astonishingly fast, so a small problem becomes an infestation in a couple of weeks if you’re a step behind.

Clearing them properly

Do three things at once: treat every pet in the home with a vet-recommended product (not just the itchy one), treat the environment by washing all bedding hot, vacuuming thoroughly every day for a while (and emptying the vacuum outside), and keep treating for at least three months to break the full life cycle. Skipping the environment or stopping early is why infestations come roaring back.
