End-of-Life
Pet Memorial Jewellery in South Africa
What is available
Pendants and rings holding a small portion of ash, glass beads with ash suspended in them, lockets holding fur, and paw-print engraved silver. South African makers and international suppliers both serve the market. Prices run from around R400 for a simple fur locket to several thousand for handmade silver or gold pieces with ash inclusions.
Ask the crematorium to divide the ashes
If you want ash jewellery, tell the crematorium before the cremation and ask them to set aside a small portion in a separate container. Most will, usually for a small charge or none. Dividing ashes yourself at a kitchen table afterwards is possible but many people find it distressing.
Check before you send anything anywhere
If a piece is being made overseas, ask exactly how the ash is handled, whether any is returned, and what happens if the piece is damaged in production. Reputable makers answer these questions plainly. Never send the only portion of ash you have.
Fur is the easier option
A fur keepsake needs no division, no shipping of remains and no irreversible decision — and it can be arranged in the first hour rather than weeks later. For many families that simplicity is the point.
If the day is coming
Ease The Paw coordinates in-home pet euthanasia across South Africa — we find and book the vet, arrange the cremation and handle the keepsakes, so you can simply be present. A flat R950 covers the coordination and your keepsake memorial; the vet and cremation are billed separately at their own rates.
