Cremation
Does the Vet Arrange the Cremation, or Do I?
How it usually works
In most cases, yes — if your pet dies at the clinic or is euthanised there, the vet will offer to arrange the cremation for you through a crematorium they work with. It’s convenient, and at the worst moment convenience matters. The trade-off is that the vet often adds a handling fee, so you may pay a little more than going direct.
The vet arranges collection from the practice, the cremation type you choose, and the return of the ashes — usually back to the clinic for you to collect, or sometimes couriered.
When you might arrange it yourself
If your pet died at home, you have a choice: call a crematorium or coordination service directly, or take your pet to a vet to arrange it. Going direct can be cheaper because you skip the clinic’s handling fee, and a coordination service can collect from your home.
Either way, decide on individual versus communal before you hand your pet over, and get the total in writing. That’s the one decision that can’t be undone afterwards.
The middle path
You don’t have to choose between doing everything yourself and paying clinic markups. A coordination service handles all the phone calls and collection from home, confirms the cremation in writing, and returns the ashes to your door — the convenience of the vet route without being tied to one clinic’s crematorium.
Getting it arranged without the guesswork
Ease The Paw coordinates the whole thing — the vet if one is needed, collection from your home, an individual cremation confirmed in writing, a fur keepsake keyring, and the ashes returned to your door. One WhatsApp and we handle every phone call, and you get the full total in writing before anything happens.
If the day is coming
Ease The Paw coordinates in-home pet euthanasia across South Africa — we find and book the vet, arrange the cremation and handle the keepsakes, so you can simply be present. A flat R950 covers the coordination and your keepsake memorial; the vet and cremation are billed separately at their own rates.
