Never Arranged a Pet Cremation Before?

The shape of it

Your pet is collected, either from home or from your vet. They are taken to a crematorium. They are cremated, individually if you chose private. The ashes are returned to you a few days later, usually in a simple container. That is the entire process.

The only urgent decision

Private or communal. Private means your pet alone and the ashes come back. Communal means no ashes returned, at a lower cost. Everything else can wait. If you are unsure, choose private, because it is the one thing that cannot be reversed.

What to ask for now

A fur clipping and a paw print, if you might want them. Both must happen before cremation. People who did not ask frequently wish they had, and there is no way back.

What it costs

Cremation itself is priced by weight and varies by area. The SPCA is usually the cheapest, private crematoriums cost more, and any coordination service is a separate fee on top. Ask for the all-in figure rather than the headline price.
