What pet cremation costs in South Africa
Cremation is priced by weight. As a national guide: an individual cremation with your pet’s own ashes returned runs roughly R1,100–R2,000 for a cat or small dog, R1,800–R3,000 for a medium dog, and R2,400–R5,500 for large and giant breeds. Communal cremation, with no ashes returned, is R400–R2,200. Home collection typically adds R250–R600, with a surcharge after hours and on weekends.
Always get the full total in writing before you agree — collection, the cremation itself, and the ashes home — so nothing is added while you are grieving.
Individual vs communal: the one decision that cannot be undone
Individual means only your pet is cremated and the ashes that come back are theirs. Communal means your pet is cremated alongside other animals and no ashes are returned. Both are dignified; they are simply different choices at different prices. Whatever you choose, have it confirmed in writing — we do this for every family, on every case.
How it works, and how fast
You message us on WhatsApp with what happened, your suburb and roughly what your pet weighs. We send one written quote with the full total and a collection time. Collection is usually same-day or next-morning in the major metros, and the ashes typically come home within about a week, in a sealed container with your pet’s name on it.
Until collection, wrap them in their own blanket and keep them somewhere cool — on a winter night that is comfortably fine until morning. Take a small lock of fur now if you would like one; it is the only keepsake that cannot be arranged afterwards.

Do I need a vet before cremation if my pet died at home?
No. There is no legal requirement in South Africa to involve a veterinarian when a pet dies naturally at home. We arrange collection from your home and the cremation directly, and charge a reduced coordination fee for these cases.
How do I know the ashes I get back are really my pet’s?
Choose an individual cremation and have it confirmed in writing, and use an operator who tags the pet through the entire process. We only book individual cremations that are confirmed in writing, and we take no commission from the crematorium.
Can you collect on a weekend or at night?
Yes, in most areas — weekend and after-hours collection usually carries a surcharge, which we include in your written quote upfront. In many cases your pet can also rest at home overnight comfortably, with collection first thing in the morning.
