Zoomies: Why Puppies Suddenly Sprint Laps Around the House
What zoomies are
Frenetic Random Activity Periods — sudden ecstatic sprinting, play bows, wild eyes — are a normal energy release in puppies and many adult dogs. Classic trigger times: evenings, after baths, after being brave at the vet.
When they're a message
Daily wild evening zoomies plus biting often mean an overtired or under-exercised puppy: more daytime naps and more structured exercise and enrichment usually shrink them. Post-bath zoomies are pure relief and joy — enjoy the show.
Keep them safe
Zoomies on tile floors, near stairs, pools or roads can end badly. Herd the party to a carpeted room or enclosed garden, clear the coffee table, and never chase — chasing adds fuel. They burn out in a few minutes on their own.
When to check further
Zoomies are normal; frantic circling that can't be interrupted, tail-chasing that intensifies over weeks, or sudden bursts with scooting and licking (itchy rear ends can trigger sprints) deserve a vet conversation. Otherwise: film it, laugh, and let the joy lap the lounge.
