Ten Questions to Ask a Pet Crematorium Before You Book
On the cremation itself
Is this individual or communal? What identification stays with my pet? Is the chamber cleared between animals? Can I visit or witness? These four questions tell you almost everything about how an operator runs, and the confidence of the answers matters as much as the answers themselves.
On money
What is the total, including collection and a container? Are there after-hours or weekend surcharges? Is the urn included or extra? Get the full number before you agree — grief is precisely when people accept a price they would otherwise question, and reputable operators know that and quote plainly.
On timing
When can you collect, and how long until the ashes are ready? If you are going through your vet, ask both parties, because the delay is usually the collection schedule rather than the crematorium's queue.
On the extras
Do you offer paw prints, fur keepsakes or a portion of ash for jewellery? These have to be requested before the cremation, not after. It is one of the few things in this whole process that genuinely cannot be fixed later, so ask on the first call.
