Floors and routes

Traction mats along main routes, night lights for cloudy old eyes on the way to water, gates on steep stairs, and furniture kept in place — pets with fading vision navigate by memory, and rearranged rooms erase the map.

Rest upgrades

Orthopedic beds in warm, draft-free, traffic-free spots (one per floor saves stair trips), raised food and water bowls for stiff necks, and water stations everywhere so a drink never requires a journey.

Bathroom logistics

More frequent toilet breaks, a lower-sided litter box on each level for cats, and grass mats or pads for dogs who can't always wait. Accidents in a previously perfect senior are usually medical or mobility issues — respond with a vet visit, never scolding.

Warmth and grooming

Old joints ache in cold: sweaters for thin-coated seniors, beds away from tiles, sunny spots honored. Help with grooming they can no longer reach, keep nails short (they clench for grip), and check weekly for lumps while you're at it — hands-on time is screening time.
