Cremation
What the SPCA Charges for Pet Cremation in South Africa
The SPCA is usually the cheapest route
If cost is the deciding factor, say so out loud and go to your local SPCA. They are a welfare organisation, not a business competing for your money, and their fees are typically well below private crematoriums. Nobody at Ease The Paw will think less of you for taking that route — it is often the right one.
What it generally costs
Fees are set branch by branch rather than nationally, so there is no single figure. As a broad guide, communal cremation through an SPCA branch usually falls somewhere in the low hundreds of rand for a cat or small dog, rising with weight. Private cremation with ashes returned costs more, and some branches do not offer it at all. Phone your nearest branch and ask for their current fee for your pet's weight — they will tell you plainly.
What is usually not included
Collection is the common gap. Many branches expect you to bring your pet to them, which is a real difficulty if you are alone, without a car, or simply not in a state to drive. Ashes, urns, paw prints and certificates are usually extra or unavailable. Turnaround can be longer than a private crematorium because they are handling volume on limited resources.
Communal versus private
Communal means your pet is cremated alongside others and the ashes are not returned. Private means your pet alone, with ashes back to you. Most SPCA pricing you see quoted is communal. If having the ashes matters to you, confirm before you commit, because it cannot be undone afterwards.
Where we fit
We charge R500 to arrange everything — finding the crematorium, booking collection, handling paperwork, keeping you updated, and a paw print keychain. The crematorium bills you separately at their own rate. If you would rather deal with the SPCA directly and save that R500, do it. We would rather you kept the money than felt pushed.
If you need a cremation arranged
Ease The Paw arranges pet cremation across South Africa. We find the crematorium, book the collection, stay on it until the ashes are back with you, and set a lock of their fur into a paw print keychain in the colour you choose. A flat R500 covers the coordination and the keychain — the crematorium bills you directly at their own rate.
